A Sustainability Promise For The New Year

The end of 2023 is approaching fast and while we’re all busy planning family gatherings and friends get-togethers, it’s important we all stop and think back to all the accomplishments of the past years, as well as the infinite life lessons.

At Cherchez La Femme, we’ve had quite the year upholding those sustainability promises we made as part of our mission. With the new year ahead of us, we’re making ourselves a new promise: to try and find ways to push our sustainability boundaries even more throughout 2024.

If you’re here and reading this, it means you too are interested in living sustainably and making a positive impact. The new year is a perfect time for a fresh start and a chance to make a difference. While new year resolutions are a popular way to achieve personal goals, it's crucial to prioritise sustainability now more than ever.

Thankfully, there are many ways to make a change, whether it’s simple swaps in your daily routine or participating in more significant projects. This week, we've compiled a list of the easiest, most sustainable resolutions to help you contribute to a greener planet in 2024.

Ways To Be More Sustainable In 2024

1.Ditch Disposable Straws

It’s time we all said goodbye to single-use straws by asking for your drinks without them when at the pub. Make it your goal to say "Can I have that without a straw, please?" every time you order a drink. This simple action can make a big difference, even if the straw is a paper one.

2.Plant or Grow Something New

Bring some greenery into your life by planting or growing something new. Plant some seeds and watch them grow over the summer. Adding more plants to your indoor and outdoor spaces can make you feel happier and healthier, plus you can avoid buying more of that herb or fruit if you have it in your garden.

3.Start a Zero Waste Challenge

Take the waste challenge this year and reduce your household waste and recycling. This New Year's resolution can keep you challenged all year long. Choose one thing a week or a month to change for a more zero waste or low-waste option. Of course, as long as it works for your lifestyle and personal goals.

4.Remember Your Reusables

Make reusable shopping bags, coffee cups, produce bags, cutlery, and containers a part of your daily routine. Try to make it an automatic habit like grabbing your purse or keys. You can even create a grab bag with slots for your regular items to ensure you never forget anything.

  1. Make a Plastic-Free Product Swap

Switch to more sustainable options and save money in the long run. Try making a swap to safety razors, corn toothbrushes or fabric makeup remover pads. Take it one step at a time, and give yourself a chance to adjust and alter until it's successful.

  1. Eat More Whole Foods

Increase your intake of whole foods like vegetables, fruits, nuts, and legumes. Processed and packaged foods contain more salt, preservatives, and fake flavours. By choosing more whole foods, you'll improve your health and reduce packaging waste.

  1. Buy vintage and pre-loved

Whether this is for your home or wardrobe, buying second-hand and vintage helps reduce the amount of clothing produced, hence the amount of clothing that end up in landfill every day. Check out Untagged Fashion and The Reloved Club’s selection of preloved and vintage, these companies also have lots of pop-ups in central London throughout the year. And they’re fun ones to attend!

We’d love to know if you have any other tips on living greener for the new year, so feel free to leave a comment below or get in touch. We’ll be more than happy to add your suggestions into this blog!

Happy New Year,
